Welcome to the Department of Applied Physics (AP) of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). AP offers two teaching programmes, BSc (Hons) in Engineering Physics (EP) and Higher Diploma in Applied Physics (HD). The EP programme is unique in Hong Kong and is specially designed for students who want to know about the science that underlines engineering. Graduates from this programme can go into any engineering field because they have learned the principles that form the foundation of all engineering. If you are not sure which engineering field to choose, EP might be just the choice. With a degree in Engineering Physics, you can have a successful career in any field of engineering, industrial science, education or business. The problem-solving ability you acquire during your study is useful wherever you go.

Staff in AP conduct research of an applied nature with due emphasis given to support the industrial and economic development of Hong Kong and the Chinese Mainland. The Centre for Smart Materials in AP is internationally known for its research on the science and technology of smart materials and systems.
